Every accomplishment starts
with the decision to try...
.....Gail Devers
First let me apologize...
I thought I could manage the 29 Faces Challenge...
despite having just started a new job...
and having prayer flags to complete for our
little mixed media group swap....
what I wasn't counting on was the time it would take
for my grandma body to adjust...lol
and just how tired I would be for the first two weeks...
nor was it for a lack of trying...
I did try to draw and paint some faces...
but I struggled and
completely overworked them...
I do enjoy this challenge so much...
and had no idea how I was going to catch up...
well that was until...
hello... gelli plate...
thankfully now...
I am feeling less tired...
and getting into the swing of things again...
and I so 'LOVE' my new job...
so it has all been worth it...
I am sorry that I have missed coming to your blogs...
and leaving you some love...
I promise I will be around to do that soon...
BUT...
today our little mixed media group got together...
and played with plaster and gelli plates...
my plate has been ordered but hasn't yet arrived...
so I was thrilled when Clare lent me hers...
and this afternoon...
I created all 8 faces...
and loved every minute of it...
it is only the second time I have played with the plate...
so I signed up with Julie Balzer's
and learned so so much...
she is running a different 'Getting Started' class every month...
and at $15... it was worth every cent...
each of these faces were painted onto the plate...
and then printed onto my paper...
fun... fun.. fun...
and I am even in front with one face now...
who would have thought...lol
click on any of the pics for a larger view...
and this morning we created plaster fabric...
the larger sheet is created from plaster gauze...
and the smaller from joint compound...
the joint compound is much smoother and lovely for painting on...
but I am seriously loving the texture with the gauze...
really looking forward to adding some color to it...
and we all made a little heart each...
this one is a mix of the gauze and the joint compound..
over a cardboard heart with little balls of newspaper glued on...
lots of lumpy bumpy texture...
It was another wonderfully creative day with my friends...
and we also swapped our prayer flags...
which I will share with you in the next post...
so until then...
happy days...
Jenny ♥

ReplyDeleteI spent last weekend creating with others and it's amazing the vibe it gives off - I don't think I had ever been so productive either!
ReplyDeleteI was also introduced to the gelli plate concept while I was there and since then seem to be seeing the outputs all over the place. Your work has me even more convinced that I need to buy one....

ReplyDeleteOkay, I think YOUR post HERE finally convinced me to get a gelli plate! Everyone's talking about it, and frankly, I don't get all the fuss, but now I see something I never knew - and I DO have some gift certificates to Blick . . .hmmm.
ReplyDeleteLOVE what you've done here, LOVE the yellow and blue especially and good luck with adjusting to your new schedule! xoxo
Yes! Gelli Plates look like SO much fun! I am resisting the temptation to buy one. I am sure I am going to give in to the urge one of these days. ;) Have a beautiful weekend!

ReplyDeleteplus i love your excitement over making these and playing with a Jelly plate, something i have never done.
your plaster pieces look wonderful too, they are like a map, i look at it and see endless possibilities.

You have not convinced me about the grandma body! Tell me how can you be if you get 8 face up all at once. I think you are a super star well done and I like how you have created something differentfrom what you normally do!

wow Jenny so different from your other art. Very nice! Starting a new job is fun, but there is always so much to learn that you can find yourself pretty beat at the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteOh well, I don't even have a new job and already having trouble by creating a face everyday. It is fun, but it is hard to merge into dauly life. It sure is a challenge.
ReplyDeleteLove these faces and thanks for sharing the class. I'm thinking of buying a gelli plate myself, did some printing with gellatine and it was so much fun, but a lot of work. This plate sounds good to a lazy girl :)
Awe, thank you! You made my day, xoxo!
ReplyDeleteI didn't find the challenge until a day or 2 ago so like you, I had to play catch-up! Your work is delightful and I love all the bright colors!
ReplyDeletePS...I think I am going to have to order a gelli plate....
